Into the Light 1.5: Campaign Diary
That night, M’narr was jolted awake by an intense pain racking his body. Stood over him in the darkness he could just about make out the stocky form of a half-elf. Crying out, 12-Bar and Ragados ran to his aid. 12-Bar cast barkskin on the half-naked Ragados, who’d just managed to grab his spellcasting tools as he’d leapt out of bed. A furious battle of spellcasters ensued, with Gremmith slowly retreating back through the narrow hallway and down into the restaurant below the apartment. The assassin detonated a fireball at the top of the staircase and pelted the heroes with acid arrows; M’narr and 12-Bar both briefly went down in the onslaught. But in the end, the assassin was thwarted. After an interminably tedious interview with the Harmonium, the trio finally went back to bed.
The next day, the heroes levelled up! Then the downtime began. M’narr spent a week working for the Guvners in return for access to the faction’s famous spell library. The second week he spent working in court, and was surprised to see the air genasi Ivth Nanright in the dock! Ivth had been found guilty of murdering a female Githzerai (Lari Chant-Finder) and a man called Barmy Kank, as well as assault, disturbing the peace, yadda yadda yadda. (This seemed a good way to tie up some loose ends, and retrospectively give the players a bit of context on Ivth.) M’narr managed to pass his promotion exam as well.
Following his by-now famous performance in the Hall of Speakers, 12-Bar was invited by his faction to play at the Civic Festhall. So it doesn’t look like chatter about the church is going to go anywhere any time soon. But he played well and was promoted two ranks, even if he’s probably an anarchist. Ragados spent a week on the beat with the Harmonium, and earned the same promotion. 12-Bar spent his second week drinking and making friends, while Ragados started work on making an Immovable Rod.
After the excitement with the church, it looked like things might just be returning to boring normality, and for a few days, they did. But then one morning, Mercy, the dogsbody of Truetemper’s Solution, was uncharacteristically late for work…
