The Aftermath: Campaign Diary
So M’narr blew up a bunch of defenceless Athar, 12-Bar nearly got cut down in revenge, and Ragados is running for dear life wondering what’s happened to his friends to make them so reckless. Ragados and M’narr take cover in the Park of the Infernal and the Divine, a park full of ancient statues, and take cover behind a monument of marble hands. Ragados sends Gerok skywards, and the homunculus is able to find 12-Bar on the edge of the Lower Ward and lead him to the group. Ragados and M’narr have time to catch their breath before fleeing a Harmonium patrol and catching a pony cab home with 12-Bar. Ragados wants to know why 12-Bar didn’t counterspell M’narr. 12-Bar isn’t really sure. Otherwise, the journey passes in silence.
Getting back to the Clerk’s Ward and the workshop, M’narr barricades himself inside the workshop. Ragados and 12-Bar gently talk him into heading upstairs to the apartment. The next day, the poison of Demogorgon’s Rot leaves M’narr, and the emotional hangover begins. The regret. All three characters make their way to the City Courts in a pony cab. M’narr finds his way into the Guvners’ chambers and confesses everything to one of the high-ups. The high-up (Bureau Chief Jamis) casts a sending on Ragados to tell him and 12-Bar what their fine is. It's steep, but 12-Bar calls in a favour with the Sensates to get it reduced. M’narr, meanwhile, meets with Administrator Berith Mormo, his new Earth Genasi lawyer. Mormo listens to the case and explains that M’narr has underestimated the political controversy of his case. For the Guvners to keep their hands clean of the burgeoning Athar-Signer faction war, M’narr must pay the music. If he wants to live, his choice is an unpleasant one: accept the death penalty for his crimes, get executed, and hope someone can snatch his body for resurrection before the Dustmen take it? Or plead insanity, get committed to the Gatehouse, and hope to be quietly discharged whenever the whole thing blows over? Faced with a short time among the Mercykillers or a long time with the Bleak Cabal, M’narr decided to take his chance with the Bleakers.
